Tonight marks the first of (hopefully) many exciting gigs taking place at the Buffalo Bar in Cardiff. Creative Sound and Music will be taking over the venue with help from Computer Games Design and Interactive Media students.
Steve Fraser will be playing a mix of minimal techno, tech house and a more ambient track but won’t be performing and instead playing them from a cd.
Aimee Lee will be performing as part of the only band to be playing. Your Big Idea are a pop-punk/hardcore rock band whose influences are “all over the place” including bands such as The Lawrence Arms, Fugazi, Tool, The Fall Of Troy, Have Heart, Blink-182, Dream Theatre, Pixies, Minor Threat and Propagandhi. In the words of Aimee they’re “pretty fucking brilliant” so great things are expected from this four piece.
Guy Evans, who sent me a massive list of influences, will be playing us a mix of music he’s made within the past 15 years including different styles like drum & bass, dub, acoustic, electronic and broken beat. Those of us who have heard his music know he’s an awesome musician so his set promises to be brilliant. He also mentioned he may do a DJ set so with any luck that’ll be going ahead.
Louis Derry will be performing as Oscar Later. Influenced by artists such as Basement Jaxx, Coldcut and Fatboy Slim, we will be hearing an electronic set as he plays his second Buffalo Bar gig this year.
Martyn Kinnear and Lewis Williams will be performing an electronic set (influences being High Contrast, Chase & Status and Skream). Martyn will be doing live sequencing whilst Lewis scratches decks. Having just released an album on iTunes (search Martyn K) this promises to be a good set.
Ian Williams hasn’t let on what he’s performing but has told me he plays children’s guitars, enjoys Come Dine With Me (don’t we all) and is influence by Marmite….so we’ll either love him or hate him, I’m sure it’ll be the former.
Bryn Roberts sent me this link…http://ibrince.wordpress.com/ and will be using this evening to try out his five piece guitar orchestra and the basis for a new type of composition. The link explains all….and it sounds like an awesome idea.
Third year Kass Sheppard will also be performing but we don’t know what so until this evening, he will remain a mystery.
The evening should start at around 7/7.30 so make sure you head down for what promises to be a great night
